Mulberry tea packaging design, Case study: Prasanmit Community Enterprise Bangkok
Main Article Content
Abstract
Packaging serves not only to protect and preserve product quality but also functions as a critical element in marketing, usability, and environmental sustainability. Accordingly, packaging design is an essential component of the production and distribution process. This research, entitled Packaging Design of Mulberry Leaf Tea: A Case Study of Prasanmitr Community Enterprise, Hiranyaruji Subdistrict, Thonburi District, Bangkok, was undertaken with two objectives: (1) to examine the existing packaging of mulberry leaf tea produced by the Prasanmitr Community Enterprise, and (2) to design mulberry leaf tea packaging in accordance with packaging standards.
The study employed fieldwork through direct engagement with the community to investigate existing problems and assess consumer and community needs. Data were collected using interviews and observation. The principles of packaging design were then applied in the development of the new packaging.
The research findings revealed that the original mulberry leaf tea packaging of the community enterprise consisted of a paper zip-lock bag with a sticker label. This format was inconvenient for storage, easily torn, and provided incomplete product information that did not comply with packaging design principles. Accordingly, the researcher developed a new packaging design that is durable, lightweight, resistant to impact, light, and air exposure, convenient to use, environmentally friendly, and capable of clearly communicating product information. In addition, a distinct visual identity was established for all five flavors through differentiated color schemes and graphic elements to reflect their unique characteristics, namely green (mulberry leaf), white–light green (jasmine), brown (bael fruit), pink (lotus pollen), and yellow (chrysanthemum). This approach enhances brand image clarity and strengthens brand recognition.
