Abstract

The phosphors with Gd2Lu(1-x)CexAl4ScO12 compound were studied for radiation detection material in this work. The effect of Ce content on structural, optical and luminescence properties of phosphor was investigated. The XRD pattern presented the cubic and orthorhombic crystalline structure with some derivative structures and defects. The optical spectra indicated the photon absorptions in ultraviolet - visible light region by host components and Ce3+ ion. The photoluminescence spectra performed the strong ultraviolet and visible light emission by 4f - 5d transition of Ce3+ and other discrete energy in structure. The decay time of phosphors was in a range of 65 to 73 ns. The radioluminescence excited by X-ray revealed the various and complicated emission peaks of ultraviolet, visible light, and infrared, originating from Gd3+, Ce3+, and defects in phosphors. The developed Gd2Lu0.95Ce0.05Al4ScO12 phosphors showed high potential for using in X-ray detecting screen and detector device.
