Nowadays electric vehicles (EVs) have a prominent role for visualizing the pollution free environment. In view of this, there is a need to design efficient power conditioning units as per the present trends. Moreover, the fuel cells present a righteous solution for powering the EVs. However, the main drawback associated with each fuel cell is the production of very low output voltage. Hence, high step ratio DC-DC converters are required for generating the desired dc link voltage in order to feed the DC-AC converter. This paper exaggerates the analysis of an existing high step-up ratio DC-DC converter for the EV applications. This converter is designed with the voltage mode and average current mode control strategies. The PSIM simulation results are presented for the above two control strategies with an emphasis on the steady and dynamic load regulations. The converter efficiency curves are presented with respect to the different input and load conditions.
