Abstract

In recent years, distributed generation (DG) is becoming an interesting topic for researchers and engineers for improving the distribution system performance by reducing power loss and enhancing the voltage profile. Meanwhile, DG integration in the system requires a technical solution to get maximum benefits and avoid any negative impacts in terms of location and size of DG presence. In this paper, a meta-heuristic optimization method called Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) which is a novel optimization algorithm is applied to find the optimal location and size of DG in radial distribution systems. Moreover, the real power loss minimization and voltage profile improvement are the objective functions in this paper considering DG which injects only real power. The proposed algorithm is compared with other three well-known optimization methods including the genetic algorithm (GA), Artificial Bee Colony (ABC), and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Also, the algorithm performance is evaluated with 33 and 69 bus radial distribution systems. The obtained results show the proposed method provided better performance with less computation time when compared with the other three algorithms.
