Abstract

Lignite and rubber wood sawdust generate pollutants under a different criterion, i.e. high bottom ash of lignite and high particulate matter of rubber wood sawdust. Co-pelletizing of lignite and rubber wood sawdust is able to trade the combustion emission, especially the particulate matter. A significance of the particle size distribution of particulate matter and its associated may impact human health and the ambient air. In this study, the influences of the combustion emission of lignite and rubber wood sawdust pellets are investigated through a horizontal tube furnace in a combustion system. The carbon monoxide, particulate matter, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and heavy metals are analyzed using a gas analyzer, an Anderson cascade impactor with inertial filter, a high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to a diode array and fluorescence detectors (HPLC-DAD/FLD), and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry, respectively. From the results, the 4-6 ring PAHs are considered as the most likely to be carcinogenic to humans with the distribution of fine particles of 0.6 μm. Furthermore, the analysis of PAHs should be made by the combination of detection by the HPLC-DAD/FLD.
