THE EFFICACY OF STRUCTURED SPATIAL SKILLS VIDEO GAME FOR CHILDREN - PARENTS AND PHYSIOTHERAPIST PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

Video games are used for educational purposes in most of the grades and in college curriculum. The games will make the learning easier without the cognitive load. Structured spatial skill educational game was designed under the concept of improving spatial skills and academic performance. Before the game goes for the actual clinical trials, certain aspects of the game must be tested. The objective of this study is to find the perception of SSST edugame by the parents and Paediatric physiotherapist. The parents play a major part in selecting the games for their children and Physiotherapist as a part of rehabilitation team have a vital role in rehabilitation. The parents (n=20) who have children within the age group 6 years and 10 years, Paediatric Physiotherapist (n=20) who have 10-15 years of experience were selected for the study. The survey has 30 questions filled by them in the google forms which takes around 4 - 7 minutes. The following attributes, explanation of the game, goals, feedback and notification, challenges, audio-visual support and child’s attitude of the game are analysed. The 5 - point Likert scale was used for scoring. The hypothesis to be tested is whether the perception of the game differs or remains the same between the parents and Physiotherapist. The results of the analysis clearly show that at least 75% of the subjects (both parents and physiotherapist) were agreed or strongly agreed with all the questions. Thus, the game can be used by the children for academic outcomes.
